Dear Sisters & Brothers in Christ,
What can I say but that I am blessed and truly grateful. I want to thank everyone who had a part to play in making the weekend a truly wonderful celebration. As I shared in last Sunday's bulletin, I realize how fortunate I am to have been stationed at "The Rock," much less to have spent so much of my priesthood here. I hear it all the time from other priests and ministers who express their envy. It truly is a special place, and it has changed my life. Thank you and God bless.
I want to thank our Social Life Commission and all those who worked hard to make our picnic such a great success. It was a wonderful time to just fellowship with one another and enjoy each other's company. It was nice to see so many people attend the picnic, especially all the children. Thanks to all who brought food and beverages. We donated the leftovers to the Missionaries of Charity soup kitchen, and I asked Roberta to find a group to whom we could donate the 10-12 extra cases of water. We are already planning for next year. We want to do something special for our anniversary year, perhaps carnival rides and live entertainment. If you have any ideas along these lines please let our Social Life Commission know of them, or better yet, join Social Life.
I want to end by echoing a warning that I am sure you have heard. In these hot days of summer please check on your elderly relatives and neighbors, especially those who live alone or may not have air conditioning. These good old brick houses of St. Louis can be great, but they can also become ovens in the summer time if, out of fear, they are kept locked up. So it is always wise to check in on those people whom you might be concerned about. Take care and enjoy these last weeks of summer.
In the Redeemer,
