Beyond Sunday Campaign

Dear Sisters & Brothers in Christ,

After mass today (Ah ha! I caught you! Reading the bulletin during my sermon! LOL) But seriously, I would like to ask you to come to the gym after mass today for a brief presentation on the Beyond Sunday Campaign. I know that many of you are the recipient of a Catholic education, and/or are trying to give the same opportunity to your own children and grandchildren. This Campaign is Archbishop Carlson's effort to insure that our wonderful legacy of Catholic education continues far into the future.

I also want to make you aware of another reason to give to this campaign. As an incentive to insure parish participation, it was decided that the money raised would be split 60/40 between the endowment and each participating parish. In other words, for every dollar that a Rock parishioner donates to Beyond Sunday, our parish gets .40 cents of that dollar. Our parish goal is approximately $640,000. So if we reached our goal we would receive back about $250,000. Needless to say, that would be wonderful and go a long way to solving some of our financial issues, although I'm not really expecting to hit our goal. However, the good thing about this campaign is that our 40% is not based on us actually achieving our goal (as some campaign have been in the past). With this campaign we receive .40 cents of every dollar, regardless of how much we as a parish finally contribute.

After consulting with our Parish Council and staff, the decision was reached how we would spend this money. We decided that we would split the funds between three things:

  • 50% - Renovation of our Parish Hall: gymnasium, kitchen and bathrooms

The gym took a lot of abuse during the rebuilding of the church, especially the floor. So we want to do some repair and renovation. What we do will all depend on how much we raise. We are currently working on an itemized list that will be prioritized. We will share more details in the new year.

  • 30% - Deposit into savings

For years we have been dipping into our saving, and that safety net will soon be gone.

  • 20% - Our own scholarship fund

Since this is an education campaign, everyone was encouraged to focus some of the parish proceeds towards educational purposes. I have wanted to renew our scholarship fund since returning, and I hope that this will allow us to begin giving some aid to our college bound parishioners.

One personal reason for giving: Each year we lose one or two families because their child is attending a parish school, and by becoming members of that parish, they get a discount. I am hoping that Beyond Sunday scholarships will help us keep our parishioners.

Well I hope to see you after mass and answer any questions you might have.

In the Redeemer,

Fr. Rick

P.S. I am looking for a few people with specific talents for several projects we are planning. For a couple of them I need someone who is knows some type of DTP software, such as, Indesign or Publisher. If you have used one of these and have a little bit of spare time to help with one of our projects please let me know and I can give you more information. Thanks!
