Let The Celebrations Begin!

Jun 23, 2016

Dear Sisters & Brothers in Christ,

First of all, on behalf of the parish and Redemptorist community, I want to welcome Archbishop Joe Tobin back to The Rock, and congratulate him on his willingness to serve The Church. Who would have thought all those years ago when you were spending your summer's here on the corner of Cook & Grand that our Lord would have such great plans for you. But I am sure, that even then, God had already planted the seed and begun to whisper the call for you to shepherd His flock. We pray that God will continue to bless you that you may continue to minister in the example of St. Alphonsus and spread the Gospel of Mercy to those who so desperately need to hear it.

Also on behalf of the parish and Redemptorist community, I want to congratulate our two new deacons, Kevin and Quy, who will be ordained to the priesthood in the coming year. I pray that God will continue to bless your vocation. May the Spirit set your heart and tongue ablaze to proclaim the Good News to all of God's people, and may St. Alphonsus fill you with zeal to minister to the poor and most abandoned.

Finally church, the great day is upon us. We have well over 900 people registered, and so it promises to be a wonderful, as well as, historic event. I encourage you to come a little early to spend some time in prayer and to enjoy the music, which will begin a bit before 6:00 pm. We have received permission from a number of our neighbors to use their parking lots. We will have security at each lot, as well as cars patrolling the area. I would also ask that you park on the outer lots [Clyde Miller's Lot, Fresh Start & St. Luke's Churches (on Finney)] or on the street, so that our guests, who are not so familiar with our neighborhood, can use the closer lots [the Housing Authority, and our outer lot and yard]. Our main lot will be strictly reserved for handicap and elders who cannot walk from other lots. I am asking our choir members and all others in ministry to park at Clyde Miller (behind the school off of Josephine Baker) and we will have our van shuttle those who cannot walk. Thank you for your cooperation and in making our guests feel welcome.

And let us all pray for beautiful weather!

In the Redeemer,

Fr. Rick
